Faceparty the story

Faceparty and the tale behind the business

Faceparty used to be one of the biggest Social Networks in the UK with millions of members chatting every day getting to know each other and attending the huge Faceparty parties.

Where it all went wrong.

The company used to be owned by CIS internet until they fell under risk of bankrupcy and decided to sell off the site. Faceparty was then bought by Anarchy Towers Ltd we relaunched it under a less classy brand identiy. We were lead to believe the site was sold on a per-profile basis and not all profiles were purchased. The rumours are that over 7 million profiles were deleted.  This coincided with new Child Protection Laws which required Social Network sites to verify email addresses so they could be checked against a Sex Offenders list. Faceparty had never done this.

The site has never really made it clear as to how many members are left and why they feel they can now charge £25 to rejoin, but the strange thing is that some people seem to be paying it.

There are now loads of alternative sites to Faceparty incliding Bongal, Bebo, Badoo. All these are free to join.

Faceparty have also now launched a password system to join the site. Want to be members have to pay £25 for the password or request a password from a friend.

Some users managed to get hold of password from friends, however the site now just charges a flat £25 and thats it!

Faceparty

Faceparty is a social networking site that was set up before the rise of Facebook. They managed to amass millions of UK members who were communicating regularly until the owners of the site then decided to boot off almost all the members leaving only 100k or so. The reason for this is still confusing to many but the speculation is that because Faceparty was hosting large amounts of data and many of the users had gone off to Faceook, the best decision would be to have a “mass clearout”. Rightly or wrongly this decision has still left the site a very popular dating site in the UK with a strong Google page rank.
Since this Faceparty has re-branded itself as more of a lower market site with a real "pervy" dating feel to it. The membership is now £25 one off charge with a further £15 / annum for Cool Tools. This is actually a price that many members are willing to pay as the site is very quick and easy to use. It does on the flip-side of the coin put off thousands of members from re-joining.
Faceparty has a really loyal user-base and it remains fairly quick and easy to use but it is now left in the dust by the likes of bongal and other newer web 2 social networking sites. The site feels dated and restricted with limited amounts of groups and other newer popular features offered on the other sites.
I am sure the members will still stay loyal but with many other places like Faceparty they will never be able to get back up to the traffic levels of the past. But maybe this is no longer the plan. It seems the revenue now comes from the lower userbase paying the much higher membership fees.
Faceparty members usually use other social networks as well as Faceparty and will probably end up leaving the site as the newer sites grow. It will remain for a few people, a good way to escape from the rigidity of Facebook and do some undercover chatting up of girls or boys.
To go and visit the site you can go to http://www.faceparty.com
